Why Volunteer?

Volunteers are ordinary people who want to do something positive. Volunteering isn't just about giving either - many volunteers discover they actually get as much out of it as they give, so why not give it a go?

People often volunteer because they hope to:

  • Develop new skills
  • Gain new experiences
  • Challenge themselves
  • Make the world a better place
  • Try something different
  • Make new friends
  • Have fun!

What could I do?

  • Support or befriend someone who is lonely or isolated
  • Conservation work to improve the environment
  • Raise funds for a good cause
  • Give information or advice
  • Help with art, music, craft, sports or other activities
  • Work with the public in a museum or heritage site
  • Look after animals
  • Help out at an event

Skills needed could include:

  • Listening
  • Social Media
  • Patience
  • Business
  • IT skills
  • Arts
  • Empathy
  • Finance
  • Management
  • Sports
  • Commitment

...Or almost anything else. Everyone has something to offer!

How much time must I give?

It's entirely up to you.

  • An hour or so every now and again
  • An hour or two a week
  • One weekend a month
  • Or more!

How can I find out more?

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, where we post local opportunities.

We are currently in the process of building a new Volunteer Force website, it's still under construction at the moment, but when it's finished we hope it will be a one-stop-shop for all things volunteering in South Derbyshire! You can see where we're up to with it here: www.volunteersouthderbyshire.org

We also advertise local voluntary opportunities on a national website calld Do-it, so you can search and apply for volunteering roles online at any time to suit you. Visit www.doit.life/discover, enter your postcode, how far you are prepared to travel, then register your interest with any that take your fancy from the list.

If you need help deciding what to do, or if you can't find an opportunity to suit you online, then get in touch with us:
