Who can use the service?

Vulnerable and disabled people and those with long term health conditions in South Derbyshire. Available to home owners or those living in private or social rental properties (with permission from landlord). The service does not support those living in Council properties.

What sort of help does the service offer?

The service has two parts:

1) The Handy Person can assist by:

  • Suppling and fitting grab rails, key safes and other low-level adaptations to ensure that residents can live safely and independently in their home.
  • Supporting with minor repairs that support safe living – changing light bulbs, ensuring carpets are fitted safely to prevent falls etc.

2) The Handy Person Support Coordinator can ensure that residents are aware of a range of other support services provided locally in South Derbyshire. This might include for example, referrals to other services, signposting to other agencies and supporting access to local social activities.

Who can make referrals?

Professionals, family and self-referrals.

How much does the service cost?

The service is free. A person can use the Handy Person a maximum of three times per year. There is no limit to help from The Handy Person Support Coordinator.
